Day Nine of The Lord’s Prayer

On Earth as it is in Heaven for God; Our Daily Bread

Devotional

Josh Laughter, pastor of Good Fight Church of Yukon, OK, provides a feast upon “Give Us This Day Our Daily Bread.” Be inspired by Josh’s teaching of his faithfulness and provision.

Here in Matthew, we see Jesus teaching his disciples how to pray.  Today’s focus is how we see Jesus teach to ask for provision.  Here we literally have the son of God assuring us that we can ask and depend on God.

Jehovah Jirah; the Lord will provide.

There are at least 169 verses in the Bible that mentions ways God provides for us.  But let’s remember, His provision is more than just our material needs, it’s also our spiritual needs.

Sometimes we can prioritize our dependency on the wrong source.  We try to do it alone or expect others to provide for us.  We think the right job, the right spouse, the right president or the right (fill in the blank) will take care of our needs or solve our problems.  And while God can use these things for His Glory or to accomplish His plans, ultimately it is only Him that can meet all our needs. We have a longing deep within that can only be filled by our Creator.

We can lay our control,  pride, fear, distrust, anger, and every other emotion down at the feet of Jesus. No matter what the circumstances are, we know we can depend on God.

Turnaround Questions

Do you have areas in your life where you separate from God and place your dependency, your trust,  in the wrong provider?

Where do you place your faith for your provision in?

Are you trying to do things on your own or expect too much from your neighbor, church, or government?

What keeps you from placing your total trust and dependency on God?

Make a list of things or areas you will depend on God for.  It will change your heart and build your faith.

Let’s listen and pray with Pastor Josh.
