Day 44: We Will Serve The Lord

October 27, 2024

Joshua 24:15

"And if it seem evil unto you to serve the LORD, choose you this day whom ye will serve; whether the gods which your fathers served that were on the other side of the flood, or the gods of the Amorites, in whose land ye dwell: but as for me and my house, we will serve the LORD."

Introduction

It is Day 44 and our inspiration for today’s focus is Joshua. What a powerful statement when Joshua declares, “But as for me and my household, we will serve the Lord!”

Insight

Joshua presented the Israelites with a clear choice: serve idols or serve God. Today we may think we do not serve idols because we are not worshiping a golden statue. However, an idol is anything or anyone that becomes more important to us than God. Some examples of idols are success, money, shopping, social media, entertainment, exercise, and food (to name a few).

The fundamental question is, who or what do you idolize? We all have a choice to make—who will you serve? Our parents, grandparents, teachers, and mentors can guide us, but ultimately, we must choose who we will serve. There may be peer pressure all around you, and maybe friends or family members are making fun of you or telling you not to be so “religious.” However, today is the day to decide whom you choose to serve. Joshua made it very clear that his choice was to serve the Lord!

Turnaround Questions

How am I showing others that I serve the Lord? Do other people see that Jesus is most important to me? If not, how can I change today?

Prayer

Lord Jesus, I want to serve you with my whole heart and not just a portion of it. Show me where I have placed you in my life. If you are not first, then show me what my priority has become. God forgive me for allowing idols to creep into my life. I choose today to make you first. God I love you and I am grateful for your amazing love! Give me wisdom in the things I do and say and let me make a positive difference in someone’s life today. Amen.
