Welcome to The Turnaround’s 52 Days of Prayer!
INTRODUCTION
Nehemiah is pleading His case before the high court of Heaven, standing before the judge over all Heaven and Earth reminding the Lord of His covenant with His people, that the Lord redeemed them and now belongs to Him. They’re His people, and they need His intervention and mighty hand, once again.
INSIGHT
Like a lawyer standing before a judge, Nehemiah has one job, to remind the Lord of His Covenant, of His law and case precedent. This is a model for us as we pray for our country. We have an advantage, the judge that we plead our case before is the Creator who wrote the law, and our attorney is His Son.
When we pray for our country we remind the Lord that we are His people, His country that was founded on His word to evangelize the world as a light in the darkness in a place where we could worship our creator freely. Nehemiah is making a case for God’s people, God’s land, God’s city, and ultimately the name and glory of the Lord. That is how we can pray boldly for our country.
We can Reminding the Lord of His covenant with Abraham, Isaac and Jacob, reminding the Lord of His promises, rehearsing how He delivered Shadrach, Meshach and Abed-Nego from the burning fiery furnace, and in so doing caused the name of THE LORD to be honored in the nation of Babylon where moments before were cast in the fire for doing.
Like King David, when Goliath mocked the God of Israel, David was righteously indignant that someone would mock His God, the God of Israel. And that caused a holy boldness to rise up within him to defend the name of the Lord. He was not concerned for himself that he might die in the process as the three Hebrew children were not fearful for their lives. Their boldness changed the government and their nation in a single moment. With a single act of courage.
This holy indignation is what is causing Nehemiah to rise up in boldness to place his career on the line, and he knows if he fails, he doesn’t just get fired or kicked off the board, but he could very well be put to death. But he has already made that decision, as he did every day when he sampled the food and the wine before the king ate. The time for us is now. The time to act is now, the time to act with bold certainty, and confidence.
TURNAROUND QUESTIONS
- What is God calling you to stand up for today?
- What is the Creator of Heaven asking you to put on the line today for what is right, just, and fair?
Let us intercede for our country in the same manner, reminding the Lord we are His people, this is His country, He has shown His name great in this country, as we are free to worship Him. And ask God to do a mighty work to bring about revival in our country.
PRAYER
Father, we thank you, that this country was founded to be a light in the darkness, a place to worship you freely. We repent on behalf of our nation. God, acknowledge there’s a remnant who lifts up your name and praises and worships you in spirit and truth!
We ask that you would raise up Nehemiahs to stand in the gap for your people to make bold asks because we are YOUR people, whom you have redeemed and have a plan for, as well as our country.
We pray for revival, that our hearts would be stirred and changed, turned towards you, and that we would remember it’s no longer us who live, but it’s You who lives within us.
So today, Father, we take our everyday ordinary life, our eating, sleeping, working, walking around life and we place it before you as an offering. Use each and everyone of us this ordinary day in an extraordinarily supernatural way, for your Glory!
Help us to readily recognize what you’re doing, and instantly obey, and embrace what you’re doing. Let us join in with the work of your Spirit for revival in our personal lives, families, communities, state, and country! We boldly ask this before your throne of grace, in Jesus’ name, Amen!
